SOUTH BEND - Constantine "Gus" Elias Lampos, 83,
passed away on November 22, 2007, in Holy Cross Care and
Rehabilitation Center. Born September 22, 1924, in Paleokospro,
Greece, he was the son of the late Elias C. and Marola (Karizanis)
Lampos.
In October, 1938, Gus moved from Greece to
South Bend, where he later met his wife, Mary A. (Grevenites)
Lampos. They were married in Chicago, IL, on July 21, 1946. She
preceded him in death in 1986. A son, Peter Lampos, also preceded
him in death in 1985. Survivors include three daughters, Anna M.
(Nicholas) Efthimiou of LaGrange, IN, Elaine Lampos of
South Bend, IN, and Irene (Kevin) Armstrong of Middlebury,
IN; three sons, Elias "Louie" (Patricia) Lampos of
South Bend, IN, James (Elizabeth) Lampos of McKinney, TX, and
William (Linda) Lampos of Granger, IN; two brothers, Steven
Lampos of Troy, MI, and Christ Lampos of South Bend; 16
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his long time friend,
Alice Haeb of South Bend.
Gus was a WWII army veteran. He landed on
Omaha Beach on D-day plus one, came home October, 1945, and later
was discharged. He was awarded a Purple Heart, due to his service
at the Battle of the Bulge. He was the owner of Lampos Inn; a
member of A.H.E.P.A. (American Hellenic Educational Progressive
Association) for over fifty years; and a lifetime member of St.
Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, where he served on the board of
trustees for numerous years.
Friends may call on Monday, November 26, at
the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood Drive from
2 to 8 p.m., with a Trisagion Service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral
services will be on Tuesday, November 27, at 10 a.m. in St.
Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 52455 Ironwood Road, South Bend.
Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions
may be made to St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, or to the
Church's benevolent fund.
