MISHAWAKA - Judith "Judie" Belle Laczai, 74, passed away on Monday, March 22nd, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, surrounded by family and friends. Judie was born on August 10, 1935, to Raymond and Dorothy (O'Connor) Reker. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Maureen Anne Campbell; and by a sister, Denise Reinholt. In 1994, as Judie Campbell, she married Jack Laczai. Surviving are her husband, Jack; children, Ray (Tammy) Campbell of South Bend, Laura (John Larscheid) Campbell of Milwaukee, WI, Diane Campbell of Carpentersville, IL, and Mark Campbell of Milwaukee, WI; stepchildren, Christine James, Tricia Laczai and Susan Laczai; two grandchildren, Bill and Beth Campbell; sister, Elizabeth Zinda of Lincoln, CA; and her in-laws, Buck and Marty Laczai of Mishawaka. Judie graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Saint Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka for 19 years. Before retiring in 1998, Judie received numerous commendations and letters for the compassionate, professional care she provided patients and their families. Judie had been a member of St. Patrick and Holy Cross Churches for many years. She worked as the office secretary at St. Patrick's School and special education teacher's assistant at several schools before beginning her career as an RN. Judie enjoyed knitting beautiful baby blankets for charitable causes, tending her roses and garden plants, and watching nature from her dining room table. She focused her life on caring for her family, friends and community and will be greatly missed. However, Judie's sense of strength, determination, and willingness to give to others will live on in all those whose lives she touched. Viewing for Judie will be Thursday, March 25, from 10-11 a.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, with the funeral to follow and then the burial at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.
