Dean W. Lacopo, Sr., 78, residing on Currant Road, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 7:34 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, in the Cardinal Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind.
Mr. Lacopo was born on Jan. 5, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Dominick and Marie (Warner) Lacopo, and had remained a lifelong resident of this community. Dean was a World War II Army veteran and received the Purple Heart.
He was also preceded in death by three sons, Dominic Dean in 1940, John James in 1941 and Tony Lacopo in 1977; a sister, Elizabeth Lacopo in 1926; and by a brother, Dominic Lacopo in 1942.
On Feb. 3, 1938, in South Bend, he married Marie Ruthsatz, who now lives in Newburg, Ore. Mr. Lacopo was a shoemaker and repairman at Alexa's Shoe Hospital, where he retired in 1986. He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Singleton of South Bend; two sons, Thomas Lacopo of South Bend and Dean Lacopo, Jr., of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Jane Marie Dukes of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Sally Ann Fricke of Napierville, Ill., Dominic Anthony Lacopo of Fairfield, Ohio, William V. Singleton of South Bend, Carol Yvonne McCaffery of South Bend, Emily Reyes of Columbia, Md., Anthony Raymond Lacopo of Madison, Wis., Michael Dean Lacopo of Granger, Ind., and Gregory Alan Lacopo of Osceola, Ind.; one stepgranddaughter, Erin Sukup; three great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; and by five sisters, Frances Tucker and Josephine Ketner, both of Mishawaka, Katherine Stopper and Anna Haringer, both of South Bend, and Mary Hinsey of Niles, Mich.
Services for Mr. Lacopo were at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Don Francis officiated. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Palmer Funeral Home.
