Rev. Thaddeus A. "Ted" Kwak, 71, passed away at 8:55 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Fr. Kwak was born on July 6, 1932, in Chicago, Ill., to Joseph and Antoinette (Panek) Kwak, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Rev. John A. Kwak; sister, Helen Kwak; brother-in-law, Anthony Zychal; and by a sister-in-law, Florence Kwak.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary (Wesley) Slotarski of Oaklawn, Ill., and Irene Zychal of Chicago; two brothers, William A. (Lorraine) Kwak of Orland Park, Ill., and Stanley V. Kwak of Oaklawn; numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Rev. Thaddeus Kwak was ordained on May 30, 1959, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Fort Wayne, Ind., by Bishop Leo A. Pursley. On June 17, 1959, he was appointed assistant at St. Michael Church in Plymouth, Ind.; June 15, 1965, appointed assistant at St. Hedwig Church, South Bend, Ind.; July 1, 1967, appointed assistant at St. Adalbert Church, South Bend; July 1, 1970, appointed assistant at Holy Family Church, South Bend; July 1, 1974, appointed pastor at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, New Carlisle, Ind.; July 6, 1978, appointed pastor at St. Monica's Church, Mishawaka, Ind.; and Aug. 6, 1987, appointed pastor at Our Lady of Hungary Church, South Bend. Fr. Kwak was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
The Reception of the Body will be at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 25, in Our Lady of Hungary Church, 829 W. Calvert St.
Visitation will follow until 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, Jan. 26, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the church, with a Rosary at 2 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the church. Visitation in Chicago will take place in the Wolniak Funeral Home, 5700 S. Pulaski Road, on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 9 p.m. CST. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. CST in St. Bruno's Church, Chicago. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, Ill.
The Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Ave., is handling local arrangements.
