John Theodore Kurzhal

December 8, 1870 – August 7, 1955

John Theodore Kurzhal, 2637 Prairie Ave., died at 3:30am Sunday in the home of his son, William, same address, after an 18-month illness.

He was born in Germany December 8, 1870, and came here 66 years ago.  He married Minnie Beyer here in 1894, who died in 1950.  He was a retired farmer in Greene Township.  Surviving are six sons, William, Herbert, Harry, Paul and Elmer of South Bend and Otto of North Liberty; two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Crowe and Mrs. Hatie Glaser, of South Bend; 31 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

Another daughter, Mrs. Ida Glaser, died in 1945.  He was a member of St Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church.  Friends may call in the Orvis Funeral Home and until noon Wednesday.  Then the body will be taken to St Peter’s Church to lie from 12:30pm until funeral services in the church at 2pm Wednesday.  Rev. Kenneth L. Kuebler, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in Sumption Prairie Cemetery.
