SOUTH BEND - James G. Kurapka Sr., 61, of 1536 Sheffield Court, died at 5 p.m. Monday in Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Mr. Kurapka was a semi-retired self-employed transportation consultant for the trucking industry. He was born May 17, 1933, in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived in South Bend since 1971, coming from Cleveland.
On March 2, 1957, in Youngstown, Ohio, he married Joanne T. Hospodar. She survives with three daughters, Karen A. Lawson of Valparaiso, Linda T. Mochel of South Bend and Janet M. Kurapka of Dayton, Ohio; a son, James G. Jr. of South Bend; nine grandchildren; and his father, George J. of South Bend. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 5521, Father Nieuland General Assembly, South Bend Transportation Club, American Legion, Delta Nu Alpha Fraternity, Quarterback Club of the University of Notre Dame, Phi Kappa Theta Fraterity of Tri-State University, Angola, Ind., and a veteran of the Korean War.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Matthew Cathedral. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., where a vigil prayer will be at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
