Virginia M. Kuhn, 88, of Sampson Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 2:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, in the Countryside Place Nursing Home, Mishawaka, Ind.

Mrs. Kuhn was born on Dec. 8, 1914, in Chalmers, Ind., to the late Clinton Owen and Nellie (Yoakum) Hawkins. On June 16, 1939, in Flora, Ind., she married the late Maurice R. Kuhn, who passed away on Aug. 5, 1963. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James H. and Willard C. Hawkins.

Mrs. Kuhn is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Kuhn of South Bend; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Hawkins of Anderson, Ind., and Bernice Hawkins of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two nephews, James O. Hawkins of Fort Wayne and Jack K. Hawkins of Carmel, Ind.; and by two nieces, Carolyn Townsend of Fort Wayne and Ann Noland of Anderson.

Virginia was a teacher at Thomas Jefferson Junior High for 36 years and retired in 1979. She earned an undergraduate education degree from Purdue University in 1936 and earned a master of science from the University of Notre Dame in 1968. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She also belonged to Tri Kappa, Chi Omega, Retired Indiana Teachers Association, Bridge Club, Mishawaka Women's Club, and the Grace United Methodist Women.

Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today, Oct. 24, in Grace United Methodist Church, 3012 S. Twyckenham Drive, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today in the church. Rev. Amy Covington will officiate. Burial will take place at North Webster Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, is handling arrangements.
