Lawrence J. "Nick" Kuhn, 83, of Lincoln Way West, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.

Nick was born on July 19, 1920, in Mishawaka, as the son of the late William and Josephine (Kline) Kuhn. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Ryan and Rita Canfield; and by four brothers, William, Paul, Kenneth and Leo.

On Aug. 30, 1941, in Mishawaka, he married the former Jean Grabarczyk, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Barbara (Ralph) Timby of Three Rivers, Mich., Laurie (Jim) Highfield of Mishawaka and Susan (Ray) Bieganski of Osceola, Ind.; a son, Tom (Susan) Kuhn of Carmel, Ind.; and by 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Nick was an assembler for Torrington for 42 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Torrington Retirees and Harvest House. He was a veteran of the United States Army, 741st Engineers during World War II. Nick loved his garden; he would spend as much time gardening as he possibly could. When he wasn't gardening he loved to spend his time hunting and fishing. Nick was very artistic in his endeavors of painting and sculpture. He liked to play euchre; he was into wine making and was a great storyteller, and loved spending time at their summer home in Three Rivers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will always be missed but never forgotten.

Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today, May 26, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Garden Mausoleum.
