SOUTH BEND - Teddy W. "Cookie" Kucharski, 82, of South
Bend, IN, passed away at 3:05 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, in
Memorial Hospital. Teddy was born on May 24, 1927, in South Bend,
to John Kucharski Sr. and Josephine (Jackowiak) Kucharski. He
retired from the South Bend Water Works Department where he was
employed for six years. Teddy had also been employed with South
Bend Toy for 40 years. Survivors include his brother, John C.
(Monica) Kucharski Jr. of South Bend, IN; his sister, Mary
Nowicki of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Timmons and Pauline
Zmyslo; and by two brothers, Joseph and Stanley Kucharski. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 6,
2010, in St. Casimir Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph
Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in
the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish
Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Teddy was a member of St.
Casimir Parish and Holy Name Society. He was a Korean War
veteran, serving as a sergeant 1st class, in the United States
Army. Left to cherish Teddy's memory is Pete Perez, his best
friend and neighbor, and all his friends from the Top Notch
Restaurant that he frequented daily. The family would also like
to thank Dr. Schroeder and the ICU staff and 7th floor nurses
from Memorial Hospital for all their compassion and care of
Teddy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
