Irene S. Kroll, 93, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Monday, Aug. 30, in her home.

Mrs. Kroll was born on April 20, 1911, in South Bend, to Joseph F. and Harriet Koczorowski.

She retired in 1980 from the St. Joseph County Auditor's Office where she was employed as a clerk for 15 years.

Her husband, Joseph T. Kroll, was a 2nd district councilman and the president of the common council during the 1950s. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1964. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald J. Kroll on Oct. 1, 1983, and by a brother, Donald J. Koz in 2001.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce M. Engdahl of South Bend; two sons, Terrance M. (Marcia) Kroll of South Bend and Dale J. Kroll of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Marie Fogle of Granger, Ind., and Lorraine Plefka of South Bend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, in Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive.

Mrs. Kroll was a member of Holy Cross Parish. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church, to the American Heart Association, or to the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
