Joseph Kowalewski, Sr.: (South Bend Tribune 4/15/1942)
Joseph Kowalewski, Sr., aged 86, of rural route No. 1, North
Liberty, this county, died at 6 a.m. today in his home after four
months illness. Born in Poland March 4, 1866, he came to the
United States from that country 65 years ago and lived in
Crumstown, this county, for the last 38 years. Surviving are two
sons, Joseph Jr., and Vincent B. Kowalewski, both of Crumstown;
six daughters, Mrs. Anna Reiter, Mrs. Catherine Nadolna and Mrs.
Lillian Ewald, all of South Bend; Mrs. Mary Lisek and Mrs. Myrtle
Maciejewska, both of Crumstown, and Mrs. Jane Urbanska, of
Martinsville, Ind.; 34 grandchildren, including Private Julius
Kowalewski, in Hawaii and Private John Kowalewski in the Panama
Canal Zone, and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be
received in the home. The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday
in St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic church, Terre Coupe, this
county, with Rev. John Wroblewski, pastor, officiating. Burial
will be in St. Joseph cemetery.
