John J. Kowalewski: (South Bend Tribune 9/29/1996)
March 20, 1921-Sept. 28, 1996 John J. Kowalewski, 75, of
Quince Road, South Bend, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in his
residence. Mr. Kowalewski was born March 20, 1921, in South Bend
and was a lifelong area resident. He was employed by M.B.
Skinners for 28 and a half years and was a former employee of
Bendix Corporation. On May 14, 1958, in South Bend, he married
Dorothy Zielinski, who survives. Also surviving is a son David
Kowalewski and his wife Carol; one grandson, Michael Kowalewski
and his wife Lori; three granddaughters, Maria Cuthbert, Tracy
Cuthbert and Valery Cuthbert, all of South Bend; two
great-grandchildren, Gavin and Rebecca Kowalewski, both of South
Bend; three sisters, Jenny Jozwiak, Virginia Wantuck, and
Florence Bilinski, all of South Bend; and two brothers, Julius
Kowalewski of Wisconsin, and Ray Kowalewski of South Bend. A
brother, Harry, preceded him in death. Services will be at 10
a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Terre
Coupe, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from
2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S.
Mayflower Road, South Bend. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Kowalewski was a veteran of World
War II and served in the Army Air Force. He was also a member of
American Legion Bendix Post 284. Memorial contributions may be
made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
