George W. Kovatch

August 16, 1896 - November 11, 1961

 

George W. Kovatch, 65, of 932 S. Twyckenham Dr., suffered a fatal heart attack Saturday afternoon while walking to a drug store near his home.

 

Mr. Kovatch was born on August 16, 1896, in South Bend and lived here all his life.  On June 9, 1920, he was married to Blanche Manuszak.  He was employed at the South Bend City Water Works.  Surviving are his wife; two brothers, Joseph and John, both of South Bend; six sisters, Mrs. Julia Kovatch, Mrs. Anna Annis, Mrs. Rose Vargyas, Mrs. Theresa Bumgartner, Mrs. Elizabeth Backus and Miss Mary Kovatch, all of South Bend.  Mr. Kovatch was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society, Disabled American Veterans Post No. 6, the Army & Navy Union No. 146 and the Schuyler Colfax Post No. 3194 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of which he was past commander.  He was a WW I veteran.

 

Friends may call after 7pm today at the Kaniewski & Son Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recite at 8pm today.  Funeral arrangements were incomplete.

FUNERAL NOTES

Funeral services for George Kovatch, 932 S. Twyckenham Dr., who died Saturday, will be at 9:30am Tuesday in St Hedwige's Catholic Church.  Rev. Boleslaw Sztuczko, CSC, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St Joseph Cemetery.  Members of Chapter 6, Disabled American Veterans, will conduct military rites at the graveside.

 

Pallbearers will be Stanley Zielinski, Irvin & Edward Manuszak, Harry & Edward Kalamaja and Joseph Sobczak.  The rosary will be recited at 8pm today in the Kaniewski & Son Funeral Home by members of the Holy Name Society of St Hedwige's.  Mr. Kovatch was a retired employee of the Oliver Corp. where he had worked for 43 years.
