South Bend Tribune, Obituary; January 31, 2005

George A. Kovacs Jr.(Jan. 22, 1928 -- Jan. 29, 2005)

George Kovacs, of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Elwood Ave., passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, at 10:15 p.m.

George was born in South Bend to George Sr. and Rose (Sokach) Kovacs on Jan. 22, 1928. He was preceded in death by both his parents; and a daughter-in-law, Lindasue Kovacs.

On June 6, 1953, at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, George married Dolores Lisek. They were married for over 51 and a half years at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores (Lisek); children, Ann (Tim) Priebe, and Daniel Kovacs, both of South Bend, Patricia (David) Olson of Indianapolis, and Gregory Kovacs of Bridgman; grandchildren, Andrew and Andrea Priebe of South Bend, Hillary and Noah Kovacs of Bridgman; and sister, Betty Sotkiewicz of South Bend.

George was a faithful, caring husband and father. His family came first before his own needs. He was a gifted person, nothing seemed impossible for him to do, repair or build from scratch.

In 1990, at the age of 62, he retired because he was diagnosed with Parkinson disease, making it impossible to do his job. Because of this disease he was also robbed of enjoying his youngest grandchild, Andrea. He retired from The Dutron Corporation after working there for five years.

He was in the Army during the Korean War, a lineman for the 101st Airborne Division. He was a Civil Defense Officer for over ten years. He was also a member of St. Stanilaus Catholic Church for over 25 years.

Visitation will be on Monday, Jan. 31, for 2 to 8 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Services will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 1, in the funeral home at 11 a.m.

Entombment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Resurrection Gardens.

The Kovacs family would like to thank all of the staff and employees of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center for all of the TLC that George and his family received while he was at the center.
