SOUTH BEND - Joan L. Kovachevich, 60, of Henderson, Nevada, formerly of South Bend, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2008, in Family Home Hospice, Las Vegas. Joan was born February 7, 1948, in South Bend, a daughter of the late Michael and Elsie (Savich) Kovachevich. She spent the majority of her life in South Bend. In the early 1990s she moved to Henderson, Nevada. Joan's surviving family includes four brothers, Peter Obren of Mishawaka, Andrew Obren of Goshen, Steve Obren of Mishawaka and Fred Obren of Mishawaka; three sisters, Rose Harlow of LaPorte, Violet Millage of Fort Wayne and Mitzi Goethals of Mishawaka; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Frankie Davis and JoAnne Conklin of South Bend. Joan was preceded in death by a brother, George Obren; and a sister, Donna Bickel.

Friends may spend time with Joan's family on Friday (Sept. 12) from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 7 p.m., with Rev. Jeffery Largent officiating. Burial will be Saturday at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Because of Joan's love of animals, memorials are suggested to Pet Refuge or to The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care. Envelopes and assistance with memorials are available at the funeral home.
