MISHAWAKA - Elsie S. Kovachevich, 88, of Woodwinds Court, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital after an illness. Mrs. Kovachevich was a retired cook, having worked for many area restaurants. She was born Nov. 8, 1906, in Cleveland, living here most of her lifetime. On May 15, 1943, in South Bend, as Elsie Obren, she married Michael Kovachevich. He died in 1981. Survivng are five daughters, Rose Harlow of Kingsford Heights, Violet Millage of Fort Wayne, Donna Bickel and Joan Kovachevich, both of South Bend, and Mitzi Goethals, with whom she lived; five sons, Peter Obren of South Bend, Andrew Obren of Goshen, and Steve, George and Fred Obren, all of Mishawaka; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Olga Paris of Crown Point, Ind. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemtery, South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
