Joseph F. Kotal, 78, of 30837 State Road 4, North Liberty, died at his residence at 6:15 p.m. Sunday.
Mr. Kotal was a retired farmer and was also employed at the North Liberty Elevator. He was born April 5, 1918, in South Bend.
He was married March 4, 1983 to Gloria D. Valovich of Plymouth, who survives. Also surviving are four stepdaughters, Fran Touhey and Rachael Williams of South Bend, Theresa Eckert and Laurie Touhey, both of New Carlisle; two stepsons, Thomas C. Touhey Jr. of North Liberty and Joseph T. Touhey of Cassopolis, Mich. A stepdaughter, Christina Marie Boss, died in 1991.
Other survivors include four sisters; Margaret VandeKeere and Helen Trippel, both of Mishawaka, Genevieve Semak of South Bend, and Hildegard Firestone of North Liberty; a half-sister, Mary Dooms of South Bend; and a half-brother, Frank Kotal of North Liberty; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Walkerton, of which Mr. Kotal was a member.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home in North Liberty, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
