STURGIS - Violet B. Cotter Kors, 92, died on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Sturgis Hospital.

She was born on Feb. 17, 1906, in Bethel, Mich., near Bronson, a daughter of Frank and Juella (Boughton) Parham.

She spent her early life on a farm at Sand Lake in Nottawa, attended the old Stone School, and later graduated as valedictorian of Centreville High School in 1922. After school she moved to Los Angeles with her sisters where she was employed at a major department store.

On March 25, 1925, she married Arthur August Cotter in Los Angeles. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1972, from complications from an auto accident.

Mrs. Kors was a housewife and farmwife before taking employment at Denton Mills in Centreville, retiring in 1968 after 21 years of service. After retirement she moved to Wildwood, Fla.

On June 24, 1974, she married Fred Kors in Wildwood, who preceded her in death on July 19, 1984. She had lived in Wildwood and Centreville for many years until moving to the Villa in Sturgis in 1997.

During her life, besides her accomplishments as a wife and mother, she was noted for her ability as a gardener, a pastime that was taken up by many of her children and grandchildren. She was also noted for her crafts, taking pleasure in producing covered clothing hangars and rag rugs, which she often presented as gifts to those close to her. For many years she was an active member in New Hope Church, Sturgis.

She is survived by her daughters, Lois and Lloyd Hobbs of Tulsa, Okla., Frances (Coleman) and Verl Murphy of South Bend, Beverly Minger of Centreville, Eleanor Cotter of Hammond, Ind.; sons, Robert and Rosemary Cotter of Sturgis, Dale and Elizabeth Cotter of Mishawaka, and James and Martha Cotter of Constantine; 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Marian Horne of Inglewood, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Edwin Parham; and by three sisters, Rena Phelan, Hazel Kelley and Irva Parham.

Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday. Pastor Dana Hartong, New Hope Church, will officiate. Burial will be at the Nottawa Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the Villa.
