Mary U. Korpal

Mary U. Korpal, 90, of East Bronson Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 4:02 am. on Saturday, Jan. 13, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Mary was born on March 23, 1910, in Lotenhulle, Belgium, to the late Cyriel and Eugenia (Cornelis) Coesens. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Velma Gerstbauer; and by two brothers, Alfred and Richard Coesens.
Mary is survived by a son, John Korpal of Indianapolis, Ind.; two granddaughters, Kara Corban of South Bend and Kristin Simpson of Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Jacob and Isaac; a sister, Sr. Mary Cyril Coesens, PHJC, of Donaldson, Ind.; a niece, Joan Bierman of Jacksonville, Fla.; and by a great-nephew, Brock Bierman of Cranston, R.I.
Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, and was a graduate of the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Mishawaka. She was a registered nurse, maintaining her license until her passing.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, in St. Joseph Church, South Bend, with interment to follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, c/o the Ministry Center, Donaldson, IN 46513.
Mary's family wishes to thank those who offered their love, care and assistance over the years, especially Mark and Elizabeth Adey, and Alicia Fullenkamp.
