Mrs. Charles V.
Korpal.
Mrs. Catherine Korpal, age 78, of 1143 Western avenue, who came to South Bend at
the age of 10 from her native country, Poland, died suddenly of apoplexy
Thursday afternoon at 4:20 o'clock at the residence. She was the wife of
Charles V. Korpal, last survivor of the first group of Polish residents to
settle in South Bend.
Funeral services will be
conducted Monday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Hedwige's Roman Catholic church
with Rev. S. A. Gruza, C. S. C., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in
St. Joseph's cemetery. The body may be viewed at the home of a daughter,
Mrs. Albert Sledzikowski, 1245 West Washington
avenue.
Mrs. Korpal was born June 15, 1853. Besides
her husband and daughter, she leaves two other children, Mrs. Peter Jankowski
and Lott Korpal; 15 grandchildren, and 15
great-grandchildren.
