Hazel Koontz

NEW CARLISLE - Hazel Koontz, 108 years old, of the Hamilton Grove Retirement Community, passed away at 6:17 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, in the nursing facility. Mrs. Koontz was born on Feb. 10, 1890, in Three Rivers, Mich., the daughter of Charles Henry and Louise E. (Reeves) Carter, and had lived in this community since 1912, coming from Three Rivers. On Sept. 11, 1922, in Three Rivers, she married Herbert Koontz, who preceded her in death in 1937. She was the last of 10 siblings. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Preston of Greeley, Colo.; and by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Koontz was a retired bookkeeper and a volunteer at the Budget Corner.

Services for Mrs. Koontz will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, in the chapel of Riverview Mausoleum, South Bend, Ind. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements are being made by the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend.
