Steven Kompar, Sr., 87, of 2019 S.
Taylor St., died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital after
a six-week illness. He was a retired Oliver Corp. employee.
Born August 29, 1881 in Hungary, he came to South Bend 68 years
ago. On November 18, 1907, in South Bend, he married the
former Mary Szabo, who survives. Other survivors are
a son, Stephen Kompar Jr., of South Bend; two daughters, Mrs.
Richard K. Seidl, of South Bend, and Mrs. Stephen Farkas,
of Ann Arbor, Michigan; five grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Nemeth, of South
Bend. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from 10
a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home where the
parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral
services will be at 9 p.m. Friday in St. Stephen's Church, with
Rt. Rev. Msgr. Elmer Peterson, pastor, officiating. Burial
will be in Highland Cemetery.
