John A. Kolber

John A. Kolber, 87, of Erskine
Boulevard in South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:10 p.m. Friday,
October 5, 2001, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South
Bend. He was born on June 10, 1914, to the late John A. Sr., and
Mary (Cinal) Kolber in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong
resident. One sister, Angela Peczkowski; and one brother,
Sylvester Kolber preceded him in death. Mr. Kolber retired on
June 29, 1973 as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service,
after 33 years of service.
On June 14, 1941, he married Florence J.
Torzewski in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, South Bend, IN. She
survives, along with one sister, Nettie (husband, Frank) Harringer
of South Bend, IN; one sister-in-law, Leona Kolber of South Bend,
IN; one brother-in-law, Joseph Peczkowski of Granger, IN; and
several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kolber belonged to St. Hedwig
Parish, where he was a member of the Usher's Club and Holy Name
Society. He was a member of the Civil Conservation Corp, lifetime
member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch
#330, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #50. Mr.
Kolber was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was
stationed in Europe as a Master Sergeant, with the 17th Base Post
Office.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2001 in St. Hedwig Catholic Church
with Rev. Leonard F. Chrobot officiating. Burial will follow in
Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN, where American Legion Post
#50 will conduct Military services. Friends may call from 2 to 8
p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2001, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be
prayed at 6 p.m.
