Ex-Policeman Dies on Street
John Kolacz, Aged 48, Collapses While Walking

    Stricken with heart disease while walking on Fassnacht avenue, John Kolacz,
aged 48, of 2602 Western avenue, was found dead on the sidewalk by passerby
about 7 p.m. Friday.
    Mr. Kolacz, a former city policeman, was carried to a porch at 1604 Fassnacht
avenue and police were called but the man already was beyond aid.
    Relatives told Deputy Coroner H.H. Rodin that Mr. Kolacz had suffered from a
heart ailment for some time.
    Mr. Kolacz was born Sept. 13, 1891. According to police records, he became a
patrolman Mar 5, 1917, but resigned March 21, 1918. Reappointed Aug. 10, 1918,
he served until September 1921. He also had worked for the South Bend Brewing
company.
    He obtained a divorce from his wife Marianna about six or seven years ago,
according to his family. Surviving is a son, Victor; two brothers, Walter and
Leo Kolacz, all of South Bend, and a sister Mrs. Catherine Chodzinska, in North
Liberty, this county.
