William B. Knox, 72, of Harrow Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed to his rest after a seven-year battle with cancer on Monday, Nov. 5, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 16, 1929, to Gilbert and Bessie Knox in Battle Creek, Mich. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Margie Smith, who died in 1987. He served in the Korean War, and was employed for 42 years at Midwest Sales and Service in South Bend.
He married the former Edna Jean Churchill on Nov. 16, 1991, in South Bend. Surviving along with his wife, Edna Jean, is a son, Steven W. (Sally) Knox of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Dr. Robert (Doris) Knox of Edwardsburg, Mich.; four stepdaughters, Michelle (Stephen) Dungy and Lisa Gill, Kathy Nogle and Janelle (Larry) Dalson. Mr. Knox is also survived by two granddaughters, Julie Dalson and Skylar Dungy; three grandsons, David Dalson, Sean Nogle and Marshall Dungy; and by many, many friends.
Bill enjoyed golfing, his church and church family (Bill was a member of the First Seventh-day Adventist Church in South Bend). He served the church as assistant head deacon and was involved in a small group that he helped lead. He always had a smile and a warm welcome for everyone. He had no enemies, just many, many friends, and he will be sorely missed by all. He was the love of Edna Jean's life and her very best friend.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home on the corner of Mishawaka Avenue and 26th Street, South Bend. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.
