Marvin Morris Knoblich, 81, known
fondly to his family and friends as "Marv,"
"Knobbie," "Dad" and "Grandpa,"
peacefully passed away at 6:10 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, in his
home. Born in Gary, Ind., Marvin had been a resident of South
Bend, Ind., since 1953. He was a graduate of Valparaiso High
School, the University of Illinois for his bachelor's degree in
1943 and his law degree in 1947. He also received an MBA from
Indiana University at South Bend in 1982.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54
years, Mildred Knoblich of South Bend; by his four daughters,
Joan (Greg) Wahlman of Houston, Texas, Jean Wallace
of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mary (Tim) Wynkoop of Roswell, Ga.,
and Theresa King of Chicago, Ill.; his two sons, John
(Sheila) Knoblich of Acworth, Ga., and Tom (Karen) Knoblich of
South Bend; and by 10 grandchildren and four step- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, William
Joseph Knoblich in 2001; and by his brother, Gordon Knoblich in
1981.
Marvin retired from Reliance/ Dodge
Manufacturing Company in 1981 after 29 years of service as credit
manager and assistant secretary/ treasurer. He spent the prior
eight years with a private law firm. He formerly served on the
board of directors for People's Federal Savings and Loan,
Michiana Credit Men's Association and the South Bend Civic
Planning Association. He was a past member of the Michiana Credit
Men's Association, the South Bend Civic Planning Association, The
Serra Club of South Bend, and served as local treasurer for the
Boy Scouts of America. He was an active member of the Michiana
Male Chorus, the local chapter of Right to Life, Little Flower
and Notre Dame parishes. Marvin inspired and enlightened all
those who knew and loved him. As an avid fisherman and Notre Dame
fan, Marvin thrived on "the best catch and extra
points." His wife, children, family and friends will always
remember him as a man of wisdom, intelligence, faith, laughter
and love. We will always love this man and miss him tremendously.
The family will greet friends from 3 to 5
and 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 5, in the McGann Funeral Home,
University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend, where a
wake service will be at 3:30 p.m.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday,
June 6, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame.
