SOUTH BEND - Robert Remington Klevorn, 83, residing in
South Bend, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, January
7, 2008. He was born April 2, 1924, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to
Walter J. and Rebecca (Remington) Klevorn, and lived in
South Bend since 1950. He proudly served his country in the
United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre during World
War II. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946.
On November 18, 1950, in LaPorte, IN, he was
united in marriage to Elizabeth Engelbrecht. They enjoyed
55 years of marriage until her passing on April 28, 2006. He was
also preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Parker on
January 18, 2004; and a sister, Judy Sprague. Mr. Klevorn
is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Sue (John)
Parker of South Bend, Debra (Alex) Vida of Mishawaka, and
Carrie (Dwayne) Hickman of Dayton, TN. Also surviving are
three grandchildren, Jeremy (Janice) Vida, Rachel (Brian) Faust,
and Stephanie Parker; and a great-grandson, Lucas Richard Faust.
Mr. Klevorn was a longtime active member of The Cathedral of St.
James Episcopal, Calumet Lodge #379, F. & AM, Ancient
Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and Orak Shrine in
Michigan City. He was a graduate of Purdue University, and
retired in 1987 as a salesman for Conrail Railroad following 37
years of employment.
Requiem Eucharist in Thanksgiving for the
life of Robert R. Klevorn will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January
11, at the Cathedral of St. James Episcopal, 117 North Lafayette
Blvd., South Bend. Entombment will follow in the columbarium of
St. James Cathedral. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Palmer Funeral Home, Guisinger
Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Contributions in
memory of Robert Remington Klevorn may be offered to The Center
for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court,
South Bend, IN 46637.
