SOUTH BEND -- Bethel (Dahl) Klemm, 93, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital in South Bend. Mrs. Klemm was born on Jan. 30, 1911, in Lowell, Ind., and had resided in the South Bend area since 1981, coming from Greenville, Miss.
On Feb. 7, 1942, in Lowell, as Bethel Dahl, she married Edmund G. Klemm, who preceded her in death on April 26, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Julia Dahl; and by three sisters, Julia Wemple, Francis Kirk and Ruth Weinberg. Mrs. Klemm is survived by a daughter, Julia D. Klemm (Stephen Burkat) of Calumet City, Ill.; a son, Brant E. (Shelley) Klemm of North Liberty, Ind.; and by two sisters, Eleanor Fairchild of Madison, Wis., and Helen Sybalsky of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Bethel retired in 1977 as a school teacher in Lake County, Ind., after 33 years of service. She earned her teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College in Waterloo, Iowa. She was an elementary teacher in the Schneider, Shelby, Lowell, Cedar Lake and Lake Central Systems for 33 years. Mrs. Klemm was a member of the Mayflower Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Lake Prairie Presbyterian Church in Lowell. The family would like to thank a very special group of caregivers who helped to make Bethel's latter years enjoyable.
A memorial service and burial will be held in Lowell at a later date. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation hours. In lieu of flowers, all memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Prairie Presbyterian Church, 1206 Hilltop Drive, Lowell, IN 46356. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend, handled the arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Klemm family.
