MISHAWAKA - Lynn D. Klaer, 92, of Mishawaka, passed away Saturday morning, March 7, 2009. Lynn was born August 27, 1916, in Mishawaka, a son of the late Walter and Mabel (Squibb) Klaer.  

He grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1934. Lynn married Rita G. Scheibelhut in South Bend on April 17, 1937. In 1940 the couple settled in a home on Smith Street in Mishawaka which is still the family home today. Lynn was employed for 471/2 years at Dodge Manufacturing where he was an inspector in quality control. He retired in 1982. Lynn served his community for 16 years as the Mishawaka 1st District Councilman. He served under four mayors, Walton, Doyle, Canfield and Prickett. Lynn's many memberships include the Mishawaka Alumni Association, the Notre Dame Ushers Club, Dodge Athletic Association, Dodge Quarter Century Club, Kappa Phi Fraternity, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2083, United Steel Workers of America, the BK Club and De Amicis Club, Goodfellows Club, the Democratic National Committee, and he was a past president of the Mishawaka-Penn Democratic Club.  

Lynn's surviving family includes his daughter, Rosemary L. Klaer of Mishawaka; a son, Larry D. (Cathy) Klaer of St. Joseph, Michigan; two grandchildren, Ryan (Kim) Klaer of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Heather (Jon) Mastny of Dublin, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Mastny, Riley Klaer, Karly Klaer and Russell Klaer; a brother, Dick (Mary) Klaer of Marcellus, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. Lynn was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita, in 1998, and by a brother, Jack Klaer.  

Services honoring Lynn's life will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m. in the Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Entombment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Pall bearers will be David Richards, David Korkhouse, Terry Wentworth, Mike Drews, Richard Scheibelhut Jr. and Donald Potts. Contributions in Lynn's memory may be made to the Mishawaka Alumni Association or to The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
