Kathleen M. Kish

Kathleen M. Kish, 86, of Buchanan, Michigan, formerly of Kendall Street, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, January, 27 2002 in Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Kish has lived the last 15 years with her daughter in Buchanan. She had been employed by Wilson Brothers, Wyman's and the University of Notre Dame. Mrs. Kish was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church and its St. Anne Society. She was active in school functions, making costumes for plays and baking Hungarian pastries such as kolach, kifflies, and longulo for bake sales. Kathleen was born on February 18, 1915 in South Bend to Paul and Mary Sinka.

 

On June 2, 1934 in South Bend as Kathleen Sinka she married Michael J. Kish who died on August 16, 1983. Also preceding her in death were a son Michael Kish, 5 sisters, Marie Kipp, Julia Smoger, Betty Kue, Helen Hurst, and Margarite Sinka; and 2 brothers, Paul Sinka and John Sinka.  Surviving are 3 daughters, Kathleen (James) Blank of Buchanan, Rosalie "Beth" (Ronald) Applegate of South Bend, and Terry (Rod) Heisey of Orwigsburg, PA; 7 grandchildren, Mark Blank, Gary Blank, Michael Blank, Jeane Koestreba, Robert Blank, Shane Blackford, and Nikki Simmons; 7 great-grandchildren, Roberta McCullen, Veronica Blank, Mandy Blank, Joany Blank, Michael Henderson, Justin Henderson, and Derek Blank; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Nick Baker, Melissa Baker, and Courtney Stafford; 2 great-great grandchildren, Brandy McCullen and Jeanette Nicole McCullen; and a sister Rose Varga of South Bend, and a brother, Joseph Sinka of Mishawaka.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2002 in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:15 by the St. Anne Society.
