She graduated from Washington High School in 1945. After graduation she attended the South Bend College of Commerce and began working for Studebaker. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Anna (Frank) Hoffer of South Bend and Julia (John) Petrasovits of Granger, Ind.; and by a brother, Frank (Lucille) Varga of Collinsville, Ill. They were active members of Grace Methodist Church. When Studebaker closed its doors in the mid-60s, they relocated to Elk Grove Village in the Chicago area. They remained in Elk Grove Village until this past February when Emily moved to California to be near her children and grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Sandy (Chip) Stevens of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Nancy (Tony) Vitzthum of St. Charles, Ill.; two granddaughters, Lindsay and Tracy Stevens of Laguna Niguel; a brother, Steve (Dorothy) Varga of South Bend; a sister, Ethel (Dick) Marten of South Bend; and by numerous nieces and nephews in the South Bend area.

A memorial service will be held in the Chicago area later this month. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Companion Hospice, 730 Town & Country Road, Orange, CA 92868.
