Fred B. King Dies at Age 83

Former Printer At Tribune Ill 10 Days

     Fred B. King, 83, of 1121 Stanfield St., a former  printer for the
Tribune, died at 6:20 p.m. Monday in Memorial Hospital after a  10-day illness.
He was born on April 12, 1884, in  St. Joseph County. On Hume 25, 1936, in
Glencoe, Ill., he married Alice  Richartz, who survives. Also surviving are a
sister, Mrs. J. J. Detzler, of  South Bend; a niece, Mrs. Eugene C. Knoblock of
South Bend; five nephews, Dr.  Jack Detzler of South bend, Dickson Detzler and
William Hinton, both of  Indianapolis; King Detzler of Oswego, Ill, and
Robert Hinton of Chicago. Mr.  King was the oldest living past exalted ruler of
South Bend Benevolent and  Protective Order of Elks, 235, and a 64 Year member ob
the International  Typographical Union.
He joined The Tribune on Nov.  10, 1934, and retired Jan. 4, 1958.
Friends may call  from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Welsheimer
Funeral Home, where  services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday with Rev.
Charles Ellinwood, pastor  of St. Paul's Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will
be in Riverview  Cemetery.
