SOUTH BEND - Cyrus E. "Gene" King, 72, residing
in South Bend, passed away at 6:28 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2008, in
Saint Joseph Care Center-West. He was born November 28, 1935, in
Lakeville, IN, to Edward and Irene (Gard) King, and had
remained a lifelong resident of South Bend.
On June 4, 1994, in South Bend, he married
Shirley Sarber, who survives. He is also survived by a
daughter, Terri Jones of South Bend; a nephew, Craig Trowbridge
of South Bend; and a niece, Teresa King of Mishawaka. Three
grandchildren, Chris Jones Jr., Billy Jones and Dale King, and a
great-grandson, Alex Jones, all of South Bend, survive Gene as
well. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward King and
Irene MacNutt; a sister, Audrey L. Trowbridge in 2006; and
a brother, Owen D. King in 1982. Mr. King was employed as a
machine operator in the RV industry, having retired from Riblets
in Elkhart following 12 years of service. He was a member of the
Friday night United Churches League at Chippewa Bowl, and also
liked going to the "Boat" gambling.
Services for Mr. King will be at 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, June 17, in Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718
South Michigan Street, South Bend. Graveside services and burial
will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 11:00 a.m. until services Tuesday in the funeral
home. Contributions in memory of Cyrus "Gene" King may
be made to the American Diabetes Association, 7363 East 21st
