Sister M. Gertrudis Kimbrough CSC, 79, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 5:02 a.m. Monday in her residence. She was born Aug. 6, 1914 in Carthlage, Ill. as Gertrude Kimbrough. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Jan. 26, 1934; was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1934; and professed her vows Aug. 15, 1936. She was assigned to elementary education in music and was a former instructor at St. Joseph Academy, Holy Cross School, St. Joseph Grade School, all in South Bend; and other schools in Michigan City, Crawfordsville, LaPorte, all in Indiana; and in Illinois, Mississippi, Michigan and Texas. She served as sacristan at Sacred Heart Basilica at Notre Dame from 1982 to 1985.

 

Services will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s. Friends may call in the church after 3 p.m. today in the church, where a wake will be at 7 p.m.
