William A. Kierein

Sept. 10, 1916 - July 23, 1999

SOUTH BEND - William A. Kierein, 82, of Diamond Avenue, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Friday, July 23, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. Mr. Kierein retired from the A.M. General Corporation in 1980. He was also employed by the former Studebaker Corporation, and was a volunteer with the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was born on Sept. 10, 1916, in South Bend, Ind., to John and Mary Kierein, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded by a sister, Frances Kierein; and by a brother, John Kierein. William was a World War II Army veteran, a member of American Legion Post 50 and the D.F.V. German Club.

 

On Aug. 30, 1941, in South Bend, he married Mary Scheidl, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Joan (Glen) Eash and Pat (James) Taylor, both of South Bend, and Diane (Mark) Van Volkinburg of The Netherlands; four grandchildren, Jayne Eash, Joe Eash, James Taylor and Nancy Twesme; and by a sister, Catherine (Edmund) Dettmer of South Bend.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 26, in Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Osceola, Ind. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society or to Holy Cross Church.
