SOUTH BEND - Mary R. Kierein, 85, passed away at 10:30
a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, in the Saint Joseph Care Center.
Mary was born on August 23, 1922, in Raiding, Austria. At the age
of 61/2, she came to the United States with her mother, Mary Scheidl,
and her 81/2-year-old sister, Gisella "Gay" (Modos).
Mary's father Joseph came earlier to find work and establish a
home. (All three preceded her in death).
On August 30, 1941, she married William A.
Kierein, who died on July 23, 1999. Mary and Bill had three
daughters, Joan Eash, who died December 16, 2006, Patricia
(Jim) Taylor of South Bend and Diane (Mark) Van
Volkinburg of Odessa, FL. Also surviving are a son-in-law,
Glen Eash of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Jayne Eash, Joe Eash,
James (Rana) Taylor, Nancy (Jeff) Twesme, Jasmine O'Connell
and Heather Van Volkinburg; and three great-grandchildren,
Ashley Twesme, Gavin Taylor and Hermione O'Connell. Mary's
grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her,
often visiting her and always making her smile. Mom will be
missed by all and let's not forget her apple slices, they were
the best!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Family and
friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Zahoran Funeral
Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at
4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made
to the Holy Cross Building Fund, 920 Wilber Street, South Bend,
IN 46628.
