SOUTH BEND - William J. Kiefer III, 65, passed away on
Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 4:20 p.m. in his home surrounded
by his family William was born on January 25, 1943, in South
Bend, to the late William J. Kiefer Jr. and Christina B. Ivich.
Also preceding him in death were his brother, David J. Kiefer,
and sister, Cherlyn K. Morrow. He is survived by his son,
William J. "Joseph" Kiefer IV (Carmen) of South Bend;
three grandchildren, Chelsea Jo Kiefer of South Bend, Jennifer
and Blake Denham of Harrisburg, Illinois; one
great-grandchild, Jocelyn, also of Harrisburg, Illinois. Also
surviving are Bette Allen Shelton, mother of Joseph IV,
three nephews and two nieces. William served his country by
joining the Navy and was aboard the USS Intrepid 1960-1963. Bill
worked for Commercial Truck Line till their closing. He retired
from Mohawk Door as a driver and also worked many years at Bill's
Body Shop. He was an excellent body man. He was a member of
Teamsters 364. His childhood was spent on Franklin Street where
he attended Oliver and Riley High School. William had many
interests. He loved tinkering with cars and caring for his home.
He was also very active belonging to the American Legion 284,
West Side Democratic Club, the German Club and the Fisherman's
Club.
Cremation will take place and there will be no services, but friends and family are invited to share memories of William at American Legion Post 357, 5414 W. Sample St., South Bend, on October 19th from 1 to 4 p.m. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, will be handling. Memorials may be made to the Center for Hospice of Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
