Mary L. Kertai  (July 8, 1922 - April 19, 2001)

Mary L. Kertai, 78, of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation, South Bend, IN, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001, at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Mary was born July 8, 1922, in Austria to the late Albert and Madgi (Rosenich) Lakovits and had lived in South Bend since 1929. Mrs. Kertai retired from Dallas & Mavis Trucking and had been employed with the Studebaker Corporation.

On January 25, 1947, in South Bend, Mary married Emery Kertai who preceded her on January 2, 1984.

Surviving are two daughters, Vicki (Rick) Kertai-Pinter of South Bend, Carmen (Dave) Chasco of Cary, NC; two sons, Thomas (Debbie) Kertai of Michigan City, IN, James (Patty) Kertai of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Paul, Jill, Kim, Stephanie, Nicole, Mark and Luke; a sister, Vicki (Steve) Krizmanich of South Bend, and a brother John (Sue) Lakovits of South Bend.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, in the KANIEWSKI Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.

Mrs. Kertai was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 319 /s. Main St. South Bend, IN 46601 or the Donor's choice.

SOUTH BEND — Mary L. Kertai, 88, of Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation, died Thursday in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Kertai-Pinter of Michigan City and Carman Chasco of Cary, N.C.; two sons, Thomas of Michigan City and James of South Bend; a sister, Vicki Krizmanich of South Bend; and a brother, John Lakovits of South Bend. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive.
