Emery H. Kertai (June 18, 1921 - January 01, 1984)

Emery H. Kertai, 62, of 1315 N. Kaley, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday in his home after an extended illness.  He was an electrician for the South Bend Water Waste Treatment Plant for seven years.  Born on June 18, 1921, in South Bend, he was a lifetime area resident.  On January 25, 1947, he married Mary Lakovits, who survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Carmen Chasco of Bloomington, Minn., and Miss Vicki Kertai of South Bend; two sons, Thomas E. of Michigan City, James B. at home; three grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Zsedley, Mrs. Irma Baichley, Mrs. Mary Pajor, all of South Bend, Mrs. Velma Conjalka of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and a brother, Rudy, of South Bend.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph A. Jacobs, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday.  He was past secretary for the South Bend Civic and Democratic Club and was a WWII
