Lonzo Kerr

Jan. 31, 1918 - March 25, 2000

Mr. Lonzo Kerr, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother who resided on South Meade Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 4:30 p.m. on Satur day, March 25, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

Lonzo was born on Jan. 31, 1918, to the union of the late Cassie and Ellen Kerr in Water Valley, Miss. He was also preceded in death by a son, Herman J. Kerr.

Mr. Kerr was employed as a plumber and retired from the White Plumbing Company. He was a member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board. He was also a 32nd degree Prince Hall Mason.

On June 17, 1939, in Oxford, Miss., he and Leolia Buford were united in holy matrimony. Coming from Oxford the family moved to South Bend in 1949.

Surviving family members who will cherish his memory are his wife, Leolia; a daughter, Lois (Fred) Osborne; four sons, Lonzo (Valerie) Kerr of Austin, Texas, Raymond Kerr of South Bend, Floyd (Vivian) Kerr of Youngstown, Ohio, and Lloyd (Maggie) Kerr of Bolingbrook, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mary Mack and Odessa King, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Nolie (Ora) Kerr of Jackson, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Alice Kerr of South Bend; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31, in Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
