Sister Mary Benedictus CSC, 83, of St. Mary’s Convent, died there Monday morning after a long illness. She was born June 3, 1891 in ChiHicothe, Ohio. As Christine Irma Kern she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, at St. Mary’s, on Aug. 15, 1914. She was received as a novice Dec. 10, 1914, and made her profession Jan. 1, 1917. A graduate of St. Mary’s, she hel MA and PhD degrees in political science from the University of Notre Dame. She taught in St. Mary’s College Dept. of Sociology from 1916 to 1940 and from 1951 to 1969. From 1940 to 1951 she was president of St. Mary of the Wasatch in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the Church of Loretto and burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
