SOUTH BEND - Mary M. Kempner, 88, of South Bend, IN,
passed away September 2, 2008. Born August 2, 1920, she was the
daughter of Francis "Kerry" and Margaret Walsh.
On June 10, 1944, she married Eugene Kempner. He preceded her in
death along with her grandson, Nathan, and a brother, Albert
Walsh. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Loren Gale) Fisher
of Bremen, Kay (Red) Dhaeze of South Bend and Gayle (Don) Goff
of Mishawaka; one son, John (Kathy) Kempner of Anderson, IN;
three sisters, Katie (John) Shanley of SB, Joann Reedy
of NY and Fran (Charlie) Hands of Maryland; three
sisters-in-law, Ellen Walsh, Doris (Gene) Chambers and
Helen (Robert) Chamberlin; one brother-in-law, Richard Kempner;
ten grandchildren, Ken (Kathy), Kevin, Kyle (Jill) and
Kris (Carrie) Jamrozy, Jessica (Aaron) VanWechel,
Aaron Fisher, Angela (William) Horn, Melissa (Darren) Cross,
Chad (Wendy) and Derek Kempner; 14 great-grandchildren; and many
nieces and nephews. Mary graduated in 1941 from the School of
Nursing at St. Joe, Mishawaka. She worked 35 years in South Bend,
having served at the Northern Indiana Children's Hospital,
Carlisle Nursing Home and the Saint Joseph Medical Center. She
was a member of the South Bend Area Genealogical Society and
Little Flower Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held today from 4 to 8
p.m. in the McGann Hay, University Chapel, Edison Road. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Little Flower
Catholic Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the
Mass. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill. Memorial contributions
may be made to the donor's choice.
