Dorothy Anne Kelly, 79, died in her home on Friday, October 6, 2006. She is survived by 8 sons, 18 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was born on November 8, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to Charles and Helen Newman.
On November 15, 1947, she married Joe Kelly
(WSBT) who preceded her in death in 1994. Also, preceding her in
death were her parents and two grandchildren. She is survived by
her brother, Dr. Thomas Newman (Betty), Woodale, Illinois, and
Mrs. Charlene Henley, Des Plaines, Illinois. Her sons are
Joe Kelly (Marcia), South Bend, Sean Kelly (Carole), Phoenix,
Arizona, Marty Kelly (Betsy), South Bend, currently serving in
the U.S. Army in Kuwait, Tom Kelly, South Bend, Chuck Kelly
(Lori), South Bend, Gavin Kelly (Vicky), Sarasota, Florida, Tim
Kelly (Bernie), Chicago, Illinois, and Ned Kelly (Lauri), Fort
Myers, Florida.
Dorothy's grandchildren are Ryan Kelly
(Erica), South Bend, Alan Kelly (Amanda), Fishers, Ind., Laura
and Kriston Kelly, South Bend, Ian and Brett (Rachel) Kelly,
Granger, David (Jennifer), Aaron, and Stephen Kelly,
Phoenix, Arizona, Patrick (Molly) and Brian Kelly, South Bend,
Daniel Kelly, Maribeth Kelly, and Neil Kelly, all of South Bend,
Chris Kelly, Tampa, Florida, Abigail Kelly Presutti,
Chicago, Illinois, Brandon and Korin Kelly of Fort Myers,
Florida. Dorothy's great-grandchildren are Olivia, Lauren, and
Sophia Kelly of South Bend, Matthew, Mikey, Nicholas, Mitchell,
Evan, and Noah Kelly of South Bend, Megan, Benjamin, Kaylee,
Kassidee, and Madison Kelly of Granger, and Sean and Elizabeth
Kelly of Phoenix, Arizona.
Dorothy was a graduate of Resurrection High
School, Chicago, Illinois and attended Sienna College. She was a
former personnel manager of Robertson's Department Store and the
South Bend Clinic. She was a past president of the Indiana State
Personnel Association. Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart
Parish and a Eucharistic Minister there. She was active in the
Sacred Heart Parish Center. She was also a member of the Service
Guild and the Christ Child Society.
Dorothy was an avid Bridge player and belonged to the Indiana
Bridge Association and the Morris Park Bridge Club. She belonged
to the Wooded Estates Book Club.
The family is very grateful for the support of neighbors,
friends, and especially our extended family, as well as to
Hospice and Home Instead who took such great care of Dorothy. The
family would also like to recognize all of the medical
professionals who took great care of their mother.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 3:30 p.m. at
the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, on Tuesday, October
10. There will be no visitation. The family requests donations in
the name of Dorothy A. Kelly be made to Hospice and Palliative
Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637 or Sacred Heart
Parish Center.
