Rev. John C. Kelley CSC, 74, a teacher of religion and
sociology at the University of Notre Dame from 1940 to 1953, died
Sunday morning in Holy Cross House on the campus. In 1953 he
moved into the old Community infirmary and later to the Holy
Cross House. During this time he did home mission work with
campus residents. He was born June 30, 1890 on Covington, Ind. He
entered the novitiate of the Congregation of the Holy Cross Sept.
1, 1915 and made his final profession of vows Sept. 29, 1917. He
was ordained to the priesthood June 27, 1920. He is survived by a
sister.
Friends may call in Corby Hall on the campus. The office of
the dead, followed by a funeral mass, will be conducted at 3:30
p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church at Notre Dame, with burial in
Holy Cross Community Cemetery, on the campus.
