MISHAWAKA - Don "Gus" Keen II, 83, died on
Monday, February 25, 2008, in Ironwood Health & Rehab. He was
born in Mishawaka on March 31, 1924, to Frank D. and Hazel (Reed)
Keen, who preceded him in death.
Gus married an extraordinary woman, the
former Glenda F. Cronk in Cincinnati on October 3, 1952,
and for 55 years they shared laughter, tears and life. He is
survived by his wife, Glenda; their two sons, Don (Leanna) Keen
of Mishawaka and Scott (Serene) Keen of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and
two grandchildren, Amy and Joseph Keen. His grandkids kept them
on their toes and still do. Gus was the best grandfather any
child could ever have. He gave unconditional love, and we had no
bigger fan known by many and loved by all.
He served with the Army Air Corps and was
honorably discharged in 1945. Don "Gus" Keen spent most
of his life in Mishawaka. A jack-of-all-trades, he held many
jobs. Gus' pride and joy was Don Keen's Men's Clothing Store in
Mishawaka. Every day he worked that store and inevitably snuck
over to Strauss's Bakery for some pie. No one could beat the Gus
Keen sweet tooth. He formerly attended East United Methodist
Church. Gus will be missed and loved every day. But we are so
grateful that for 83 years he made us smile with his stories and
kindness.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to
8 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2008, in the Bubb Funeral
Chapel. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10
a.m. Friday, with Rev. Ervin Mize officiating. Burial will follow
at Fairview Cemetery.
