Sister Mary Modesta CSC, 77, died in her residence at St. Mary’s Convent early Sunday morning after a lengthy illness. She was born as Catherine Bridget Kearney on March 5, 1894 in Orange, N.J. On July 5, 1912 she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross and made her profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1915. She taught in elementary schools from 1912 to 1962 in Calfornia, Illinois, Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland; and for 31 years at St. Paul’s School in New York City.

Services are at 11 a.m. today in Our Lady of Loretto Church and burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
