SOUTH BEND - Sister M. Albana Kawka, CSC, 97, of Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent, died at 4 a.m. Saturday in her residence. Sister M. Albana was born Nov. 29, 1896, in Bernau-Berlin, Germany, as Marie Franceska Kawka.
She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Nov. 3, 1911; was received as a novice on July 16, 1913; and professed her vows on Aug. 15, 1915. She was assigned to teach and had taught at Saint Mary's School, New York, Baltimore, and was assigned to the convent in 1994. She is survived by two sisters, Frau Hedwig Reichelt of Berlin, Germany, and Helena Maternoski of Biesdorf, Berlin, Germany.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday in the church, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
