Abraham W. Katz

Abraham W. Katz, of South Bend, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30. He was born in South Bend on Aug. 7, 1922, to Harry and Ida (Appelbaum) Katz. He married the former Betty Dounn and they shared many years of marriage before her death in 1981.
In 1983, he married the former Muriel Rubin, who survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister; Sarah Kohn. Mr. Katz was a proud Army veteran who served with the 280th Engineer Battalion. For over 36 years, he managed the former Wolfie's Tape Town. Mr. Katz was a member of Sinai Synagogue, and a member of the Elk's Lodge #235.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel Katz of South Bend; his daughters, Michele (James) Rohan of Madison, Wis. and Marcia (Elliot) of Slotnick of Columbus, Ohio; his stepsons, Howard (Carol) Rubin of South Bend and Dale (Jeanette) Rubin of Margate, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Leah Rubin, Alan Rubin, Rachel Rubin, and Rebecca Rubin and Mindy Blenner. He is also survived by three sisters, Beverly Shapiro of Chicago, Ill. Naomi Fridovich of Sunrise, Fla., and Berniece Tolchinsky of Michigan City, Ind.; and by his two brothers, Julius (Estelle) Katz of Michigan City, and Isadore (Shirley) Katz of Mishawaka, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, where Rabbi Michael Friedland will officiate. Burial will follow at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka.
