SOUTH BEND - Benedict Kasznia, 83, of South Bend, passed
away on Wednesday, June 6, at 9:10 p.m. in his residence. He was
born on October 26, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Marion and
Mammie (Kmitta) Kasznia.
On January 11, 1947, he married Sophie (Manijak)
in South Bend. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1996. He was
also preceded in death by a brother, Marion, and a sister, Evelyn
Kaczmarek. Benedict is survived by his three children,
Linda Kasznia, Richard Kasznia and Gary (Joan) Kasznia, all of
South Bend; seven grandchildren, Steven, James, Cole, Richard,
Steven, Ronald and Linnea; five great-grandchildren; five
sisters, Mary Jane Cinal of South Bend, Adeline Kruck
of South Bend, Barbara Matuszak of South Bend, Marsha Rieker
of Safety Harbor, FL, and Rita Lovisa of South Bend; and
three brothers, Victor of Mishawaka, Robert of South Bend and
David of San Antonio, TX. Ben was an inspector for Torrington and
retired after 24 years. He was a member of American Legion 357,
VFW 9820, ZB Falcons, and St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Dad loved
cooking and gardening, and we will miss his special touch and
special gatherings.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday,
June 10, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 South Mayflower Road,
South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 11, at 1 p.m.
in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph
Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111
Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to St. Adalbert
Catholic Church, 2420 Huron St., South Bend, IN 46619.
