Leona A. Karsas, 80, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, formerly of W. Ewing Avenue, South Bend, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, Ind.

Mrs. Karsas retired in 1977 from Associates where she was employed for 29 years. She was a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church and the Polish Women Alliance of America, #65.

She was born on July 17, 1920, in South Bend. On October 6, 1945, as Leona Grzegorek she married Joseph L. Karsas. He died on November 8, 1991.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia M. (Cregg) Sexton of Muncie; two sons, Michael J. Karsas of Speedway, Ind., and Darrell W. (Janet) Karsas of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren, Grant Karsas, Jason Karsas, Sean Sexton, Ryan Sexton, and Danielle Sexton; two sisters, Louise Susan and Shirley Stabnik, both of South Bend ; and a brother, Harry Grzegorek of South Bend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. today, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church.

Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

Family and friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, South Bend, where a rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m., and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today in the funeral home.
